Gene R. Garthwaite is a professor of history at Dartmouth College. He holds the Jane and Raphael Bernstein Chair in Asian Studies. His book The Persians (Blackwell, Oxford, 2005) is in its second edition and is also available in paperback. Professor Garthwaite will discuss 2,500 years of regional history. Gregory Gause is an associate professor of political science at the University of Vermont, and director of the University's Middle East Studies Program. He has published two books and a number of articles in journals and edited volumes. Professor Gause will put Iran and the region into a modern perspective, starting with the 1960's. Steve Zind is a reporter for Vermont Public Radio who has traveled twice to Iran. He has produced two series of reports on life in Iran, many of which have aired on NPR stations around the country. Steve's grandfather was Iranian. Mr. Zind will provide a human snapshot of life in Iran documenting the lives of people he met on his journeys there. Hal Kearsley is a professor of political science at Norwich University. He is also Director of the Master of Arts in Diplomacy graduate program. He was a Malone Fellow and has traveled in the Middle East. Professor Kearsley will say a few words about the present day government of Iran and will act as panel moderator. |
